Frequently Asked Questions

What air compressor do I need for the Professional Sandblaster Kit - 150 PSI Multi-Media with Control Valve?

This tool requires a minimum of 4 CFM at 90 PSI. A compressor with at least a 20-gallon tank provides sufficient air volume for intermittent use. For continuous operation, a 30+ gallon tank is recommended.

Is the Professional Sandblaster Kit - 150 PSI Multi-Media with Control Valve compatible with my existing air setup?

Yes. Like all Le Lematec tools, it uses a standard 1/4" NPT air inlet fitting that's compatible with most compressors, hoses, and quick-connect couplers from any manufacturer.

What blast media should I use for rust removal on car parts?

For automotive rust removal, aluminum oxide (60-80 grit) is the best choice — it cuts fast and creates an ideal surface profile for primer. For lighter surface rust, glass bead (80-100 grit) gives a smoother finish. Avoid silica sand due to health hazards. Le Lematec offers professional-grade brown corundum (LEI17-2) and silicon carbide (LEI-16) media.

How do I maintain the sandblaster nozzle for longest life?

Clean the nozzle after each use by running clean, dry air through it for 30 seconds. Store with the dust cap on. Ceramic tips last 40-60 hours of use; steel tips last 8-12 hours. The AS118-2C replacement kit includes a new ceramic tip and O-rings. Always use dry, filtered air to prevent moisture damage.

Can I use this sandblaster for glass etching and decorative work?

Yes. Use fine glass bead media (100+ grit) at lower pressure (40-60 PSI) for decorative etching on glass, mirrors, and ceramics. Tape off areas you want to protect. The adjustable pressure control valve lets you dial in the exact blast intensity needed for delicate work.

Use this properly and it will serve you well

This is a great, affordable and well-designed product for small projects, like the refreshing of my bench vise. I've owned other sandblasters in the past, so I knew that the "suction" aspect of this unit would, at best, work marginally. Not a fault of this unit, it's just that blaster suction hoses immediately create an air cavity and a void and don't work well. If you have a big project, get a pressurized sandblaster that feeds from the bottom. So, knowing that, I used a coal-slag medium to do my blasting, reloading the reservior about five times to finish the vise. Keep the gun level (move the piece so you can do that) and you'll be fine.Also...for a good job:Heed the PSI specs. My two-tank Ingersoll-Rand has trouble maintaining 90 PSI, but it got the job done. Also, don't even think about using this or any media blaster without a moisture remover installed in the line. I installed mine at the compressor, so all the air in the hose was dry. If you don't do this, your media will likely clog at the nozzle.High ratings for this one. Now go have fun in the garage!

Happy with the versatility of this tool

So far only used it on one project and is working well. Not as steady feed as I was hoping for what that may be the material I'm using. Overall the build is pretty decent. I got one stone stuck in the feed tube it was easy to take the valve out and fix it so I was very happy about that. Love the fact that it works for both gravity feed and siphon. Would recommend for anyone that's looking at something similar.

Works for VW/Audi Valve Cleaning... with modification

Are you considering this product to clean the valves on your VW or Audi and wonder if it will work? If you are using the grommet that fits over the valve opening with the vacuum and blaster opening, this product cannot get close enough. It makes a mess as the nozzle cannot fit within the recess. However, I modified the blaster by using an aluminum drinking straw. To attach it to the nozzle, I used a plastic adapter I had from a TV wall mount and a spare aluminum spacer. I drove the plastic adapter into the aluminum spacer and than affixed the extension onto the nozzle. It works perfectly!

Easy to use, removes rust easily.

I tried it with baking soda and coal slag. Baking soda can be useful for a more delicate, less aggressive abrasion. On my test with coal slag, I was happy with the result. I used a rusty bolt for my test as shown in the pictures. I recommend using a high quality respirator and a face shield or hooded respirator as the particles tend to bounce off frequently to the face. What I liked about this sandblaster is that it can take different types of medium.

I used this to blast my transfer case on my transmission. It worked very well. I would suggest putting a big piece of plastic down to reuse the media.

Works well but requires the right compressor

Needed to strip the paint off my flat bed for painting and decided to try this for getting into the corners. Tried initially to use this with my gas powered air compressor (8.5 CFM @ 90psi) and it could keep up but I was getting so much water in the air that I couldn't get the play sand I was using to feed for more than a few seconds from the siphon or the hopper. The air was still so hot when it reached the gun water was condensing in the nozzle. I decided to add an aftercooler to my compressor and a dedicated separator to catch most of the water before it even entered the tanks. I ended up building one out of a Derale 13300 oil cooler and this solved the water problem entirely and the gun worked much better. It is a bit of a pain as you need to wear a respirator (silicosis is bad) and sealed googles (I use chemical goggles) and it's fairly slow at removing paint but is quicker on rust and I was able to clean out all those nooks and bumpy welds I couldn't get with the sanding disc. A lot of work to do the last 20% of the job but definitely a useful tool to have.

Great for small projects

This Sandblaster works good for small projects. I wouldn't recommend it for large projects because the hopper is small. It doesn't take long at all for it to empty out. So if you have a large project then you would be refilling it a lot.I used black beauty to sandblast an antique bell. I feel it turned out very well. I have included before and after pictures of the bell. Its now ready to be painted.I would definitely recommend this sandblaster for small projects.

Blaster works great, but you will have to buy connector.

I wish I could take off half points, but I can't, so I have to deduct a point. The blaster worked great. I used soda to clean a piece of detailed carved woodwork on an antique table. You do have to be careful to not overdo it as it will erode the wood if you stay in one place too long. The issue is the supplied air quick-connect. The one they sent was some strange tapered connector I've never seen. Perhaps it is what they use in China. It is definitely not the connector shown in the picture on the Amazon website and not the standard connector used on most U.S. devices. I've added a picture that shows the connector sent with an inset of what should have been sent. You will have to buy your own connector, so be prepared.

Great Tool at a Great Price

I just recently started making horseshoe art. New shoes are covered with a protective coating (old shoes are covered in rust), so I went looking for a reasonably priced sandblaster to do the job: removing the coating. So, this showed up the other day (really fast shipping) and I wanted to give it a try but I had no media, so I ran down to the local beach and scored some sand from there. I did have to sift the sand, with some kitchen utensils, and give it some time to dry out, but once I did the blaster worked flawlessly. It’s great for small projects, or larger ones if you have the patience. The hopper will go through the sand pretty quick but siphon option should correct that. Don't hesitate if you are looking for a reasonably priced sand blaster that gits 'er done!

Read my review!! I thought it was junk too but IT WORKS!!

Not many real/decent reviews on this. I was at first skeptical because I didn't have any media to try out on my Brembo calipers. I had baking soda in the kitchen and gave that a whirl. Did absolutely nothing. I was very disappointed. Read online that someone tired salt. Gave that a whirl, nothing.... Mad after reading other reviews and still optimistic I didn't give up yet.Not having a Tractor Supply or Harbor Freight near by, I decided to do what everyone says not to do...I went to Home Depot and bought play sand!!!!**I do not condone or am advising using sand because it can cause serious damage to your lungs from the silica**I figured it was worth a try and only $4 for 50lbs and right across the street from my house, why not.The result was surprising!! It made me start to believe this gun. I think a big problem is that the media control valve is misleading. It says on, or off. Never having sand blasted before I didn't know that regulating the amount that comes out of the gun does make a difference!! When I first started with the baking soda and salt, it was wide open. Tried salt again with the valve only slightly open and it actually did some removal. As you can see from the pictures this gun did its job. The sand is a little but too abrasive for the alluminum but IT WORKS!! Using 90-120lbs of pressure this gun ABSOLUTELY WORKS.Use the right material and the right amount of air to material ratio and you have yourself an at home sandblaster. Now, the next step is to get non harmful abrasive to my lungs and an open area to complete the job.
