Sandblasting Media
Silica-Free Sandblasting Media
Traditional silica sand is dangerous to sandblast with — the dust causes silicosis, an incurable lung disease that OSHA, NIOSH, and the CDC all warn against. Every abrasive we stock is silica-free. Choose silicon carbide for fast cutting on metal, paint, and rust; choose soda for gentler restoration work on wood, glass, brick, and engine parts.
Which media should you choose?
Silicon carbide is hard, fast-cutting, and reusable several times. Best for paint stripping, rust removal, and preparing metal for powder coating. Comes in 60 grit (heavy-duty / fast cutting) and finer grades for detailed work.
Soda (sodium bicarbonate) is much softer and water-soluble. Designed for delicate surfaces — wood furniture, brick masonry, glass etching, engine block cleaning — where you want to remove a coating without altering the base material. Rinses away with water, leaving no residue.
Need the complete kit? Bundle media with a sandblaster, regulator, and fitting in the Sandblasting Starter Kit. New to sandblasting? Read What You Need to Start Sandblasting.
